This small group of people, who enjoy reading and listening to poetry meeting on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 2:30pm. The meeting takes place at Meriel Blower house.
The programme, which is planned for the year ahead, after a ballot on members’ suggestions, varies from poems on a particular theme, or by a particular poet. Sometimes we choose a letter and find poems or poets beginning with that letter. This leads to a vert interesting and entertaining mix of poems. Each member chooses two or three poems to read aloud.
Once at year we read between us, one longer poem and study it in depth. We also have members who prefer just to listen.
Members take it in turn, if they wish, to research the life and times of a particular poet, and give a short talk to the rest of the group. We also have a mini-biography session when two or three people contribute.
We usually have a lovely mix of old favourites dimly remembered from school or childhood, and exciting new discoveries. These sessions last for about one and half hours and I'm afraid we don't offer tea and biscuits.
For those people without anthologies, the library has a good selection, and amazing things can be found on the Internet.
